Seabrook Station Siren Test Today

On Wednesday 11/16/2011 at 12:30pm, Seabrook Station will be testing all 121 sirens in the 10-mile emergency planning zone. You will heard a steady siren tone for 3-5 minutes. This is only a public demonstration, and no action is required by the public.

In the event sirens are activated due to an actual emergency, tune to an Emergency Alert Station for information (in NH, tune to 97.5 FM) and refer to your annual emergency planning calendar.

If you live within the 10-mile radius of Seabrook Station and have a question or would like information explaining emergency preparedness, please call the New Hampshire Office of Emergency Management at 603-271-2231.

Nationwide EAS Alert Test Wed. at 2pm

On Wednesday 11/9/2011 at 2pm, FEMA will be conducting a nationwide test of the emergency alert system. The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for any type of hazard, and that the U.S. public can receive critical and vital information should it ever be needed. The alert will be transmitted over television and radio stations across the country. Be aware that not all stations have the ability to indicate that the alert is in fact a test.

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene is the first hurricane in many years that is likely to strike New Hampshire. Its effects will likely be felt over the weekend, through Monday.  It is forecasted to bring high winds and heavy rain to the state.

Before the storm reaches New Hampshire, residents and visitors to the state should take precautions to protect themselves and their families and monitor the storm's progress via reports from the National Weather Service or broadcast media or Internet sources. The National Hurricane Center provides up-to-the-minute information on the storm.

Here in Rye, emergency management officials are closely monitoring the storm. With an astronomically high tide along with storm surge, there is a significant threat of coastal flooding. Residents, especially those along Ocean Blvd, need to be prepared.

The N.H. Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the American Red Cross in New Hampshire have posted recommendations for hurricane preparations. The Red Cross also has information on its website.
