Trick or Treat
Trick or Treating in Rye will be Friday October 30, 2009 from 5pm to 7pm. Check the Halloween page for important safety tips for children and parents.
Open House
The Rye Fire & Police Departments invite all Rye residents young and old to the Annual Fire Prevention and Law Enforcement open house at the Public Safety Building on Sunday October 11th, 2009 from 12:00 noon until 4:00pm.
Fire and Police vehicles and equipment will be on display and the building will be open for any residents that have not had the opportunity to see the complex. There will be fire and safety handouts for children and free pizza for all compliments of Papa Gino's in Portsmouth.
Beach Ordinances in Effect
The Rye Police Department wants to remind residents and visitors about town ordinances going into effect for the summer.
- Permit parking areas are enforced from May 1st through October 1st.
- Horses are prohibited on the beach from June 1st through October 1st.
- Beaches (and parking areas) are closed from midnight to sunrise.
- Dog restrictions have changed this year. They are now as follows:
- Dogs are prohibited on beaches from 9am to 7pm beginning the Saturday before Memorial Day (May 23rd) and ending the Saturday after Labor Day (Sept. 12th). This does not apply between Wallis Sands and Odiorne.
- Dogs are always prohibited from Jenness State Beach, and Wallis Sands State Beach.
- Dog waste must be immediately picked up and removed by the owner.
These ordinances will be strictly enforced with fines ranging from $50 to $100.
Memorial Day Ceremony
Rye's Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 25th at 9am. There will be a short parade from the Rye Town Hall to the Central Cemetery. Participants include the New Hampshire Police Association Pipes and Drums, the Rye Police and Fire departments, Winnacunnet Marine ROTC Color Guard, veterans, Girl and Boy Scouts, and vintage fire trucks.
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Rye Congregational Church at 580 Washington Road.
