Now Hiring Part Time Animal Control Officer

The Town of Rye New Hampshire is now accepting applications for the position of part time Animal Control Officer.

Job Summary

Enforces State laws and municipal ordinances pertaining to the regulation and control of dogs and other regulated animals, which involves the investigation of complaints concerning regulation, licensing, and control.  Patrols the town in a town vehicle, private vehicle or on foot for the general purpose to ensure compliance and/or take enforcement action relative to animal control laws and regulations. Investigates complaints by citizens regarding stray, sick, and vicious animals; interviews concerned persons; observes and examines animals; determines if any local ordinances or State laws have been violated and takes necessary action to include trapping, catching, and confining dogs.  Rescues or aids in the rescue of trapped, wounded, sick, injured, or lost animals.  Destroys and disposes of animals as necessary. Issues warnings and or summonses relative to violations of laws and ordinances controlling animals.  Prepares court complaints; appears and/or testifies in court as necessary. Serves as Department liaison to local S.P.C.A. and animal hospitals.

Minimum Qualifications Required

High school graduate or equivalent OR a combination of education and experience, which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Experience with domestic and wildlife animals preferred; flexible availability; possession of a valid driver’s license; demonstrated computer, verbal and written communication skills; ability to pass criminal and financial background checks prior to employment.
