The Rye Police Department now has an RSS feed to stay up to date with press releases, police logs, and other announcements.
What is RSS?
RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is an XML-based format for content distribution on the Internet. It's an excellent way for Internet users to get updated news content and online articles without having to search for it.
How can I receive RSS feeds?
There are several ways of receiving RSS feeds.
The primary method is to download a program called a 'News Reader'. You can then set up this program to receive RSS information from whatever websites you wish that offer it, and browse headlines and story summaries that link through to the full story on the website.
Many website homepages, such as iGoogle and My Yahoo allow users to embed an rss feed directly in your homepage. Several popular websites have been listed in the box on the right.
Alternatively, most web browsers now offer similar functionality already built-in which will detect whether the website you are viewing offers an RSS feed and will then let you create a constantly-updated list of links in your 'bookmarks' menu.
